Saltwater Fly Fishing for Bonefish
If you are considering travelling abroad in search of bonefish, snook, tarpon and permit then the Devon School of Fly Fishing are able to advise you on your tackle selection and how to equip yourself for your trip.
Pete Tyjas has travelled to many destinations in search of saltwater fish and has experience as both a host and as a fisherman in Belize, Bahamas, Tobago, Venezuela and Mexico and has caught all of the species listed above plus a few more!
One of the important things is being able to fire off a cast with minimal false casting and with good accuracy so that you are able to hit the targetted fish with ease. This will make that special trip even more enjoyable if you are able to do this.
Although there is often talk that you will be casting into the wind at 80ft this is rarely the case but being able to double haul will make life a lot easier for you.
We advise that it is worth practicing before you go and having target on the ground is worth trying. It is worth trying it from a variety of distances and with differing wind conditions to give you a good idea of what it will be like. I know this isn’t like the real thing but it will give you a good idea of what is required.
If you would like some fly casting tuition at our fly fishing school we advise a 2 hour session where we will have you double hauling and well prepared for your trip.
For fly fishing holidays we recommend Fly Odyssey who offer a great variety of fishing destinations throughout the world.
