Fly Fishing with the Devon School of Fly Fishing
As a fly fishing school we pride ourselves on the facilities we are able to offer both the newcomer to fly fishing as well as the more experienced angler.
Our fly fishing lessons take place on our own private lake. This is the perfect place to learn how to cast a fly but there is also both brown trout and rainbow trout in there to make sure things are interesting when you have a fly on. When you have your lessons you can be sure to know that the lake will be yours for the day so there is no need to worry who will be watching or if you will be in a good spot to catch a fish.
Our lake is situated just behind the hotel and so there is no driving involved. At lunchtime we simply walk back to the hotel bar, settle in the comfy seats and enjoy lunch. The lake is also a great place to fine tune your casting and we have designed the lake so that all the casts you will need for your fly fishing career are easy to execute, including spey casts such as single and double spey along with snake roll and circle speys.
Beyond the lake is the river where we can show the newcomer to river fly fishing in Devon how to fish moving water. The great thing is that everything is on your doorstep so we can tailor a day to exactly what you would like to do and it can involve some still water fishing followed by an afternoon session on the river Taw.
The hotel has over 6 miles of the river Taw for you to fish and our fly fishing school has nearly 3 miles of other exclusive, lightly fished water to show you. We make sure that we always have plenty of water to show both the first time visitor to our fly fishing school, along with the many who return to us. All of the beats we will guide you on are private and we make sure they are well rested. We do not guide on club or public waters as we feel this is not offering value to our guests. We would much rather make our fishing that extra bit special for you.
Our fly fishing instructors are carefully chosen for their ability to show you how to fly fish effectively with the minimum of jargon. We’ll teach you how to cast but also how to fish. The important thing to us though is that you learn lots and have a good time and have a good knowledge of fly fishing when you leave. Our style of teaching is more modern than traditional methods and will have you understanding exactly what is happening and how everything works when you are casting.
We think the facilities and the team make us stand out from the crowd making it eas for us to offer you the ultimate westcountry fly fishing experience.
