Wading Devon's rivers and streams - The Devon School of Fly Fishing

If you are heading down for a fly fishing holiday in Devon and are planning to fish the many rivers of Devon such as the Exe, Taw, Torridge, Teign or Tamar then you will need to get into the river and wade.

We are often asked if waders are needed and the answer is without doubt yes.

If you are fishing some of the smaller streams such as the moorland streams like the West and East Dart and Cherry Brook then thigh waders will be just fine but if you plan on fly fishing the main rivers then chest waders are a better all round option. Our rivers are a mix of bedrock, gravel and stone which, for safety we advise studded soles on your wading boots.

As fly fishing guides we believe comfort is a primary concern and so we prefer to use breathable waders. These allow us to layer underneath with long johns or jogging bottoms at the start of the season and as things warm up it makes walking longer distances in warm weather much more comfortable.

Our fly fishing school will provide you with breathable waders for your days fly fishing with us.
