The river Taw has had a revival in the last few years. It would have been easy to go the hatchery route but instead the River Taw Fisheries Association (RTFA) decided on improving access for salmon so that they could travel up the river more quickly and easily.
This has resulted in improving runs and better still the numbers of fish who can make it to spawning grounds.
Although the numbers of fish caught are not comparable to the halcyon days of the 50’s and 60’s plenty of fish are being caught and in 2015 the Taw returned the most amount of salmon of all of the Devon rivers.
