Devon can boast a good pedigree when it comes to the variety of fly fishing rivers that it can offer.  They run mostly off Dartmoor and Exmoor. For both the local and travelling fly fisher the main ones of interest are:

Axe, Culm, Dart,  Exe, Lyn, Plym, Tamar, Taw, Torridge and Teign. All of these rivers carry wild brown trout and most have runs of salmon and sea trout and a few also have grayling too.

It might sound like there are just 10 rivers but there are numerous tributaries that carry water into the main rivers and therefore hold fish. Some of them are well marked and other may just be overgrown brooks but you can bet there will be a fish or two in them too.

Most of the rivers of Devon have fly fishing clubs which are cheap to join and also offer day tickets at minimal cost and there are also pubs and hotels that also offer fishing to guests. The Westcountry Passport is also an excellent scheme opening up miles and miles of fishing too.
