Fly Fishing In Devon

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

As we enter the last month of the season we are looking forward to some great back end fly fishing in Devon. The rain has meant that the salmon are starting to enter the hotel beats which is great for the angler looking to try their luck.

Please contact us for details of guiding or tuition and we’d be happy to help!

Fly Fishing in Devon in September

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Fly Fishing in Devon in September can be a great time to be on the water. The autumn salmon run will be under way and with low water for most of the season there are still plenty of fish looking to make the next stage of their journey. Trout fishing can be outstanding and with the evenings getting cooler the fish will feed throughout the day looking to pack on weight ahead of spawning.

Fly Fishing in Devon in Summer

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Despite having miles of water for you to explore when you visit us at The Devon School of Fly Fishing we are always looking to offer something new and exciting for the fly fisher.

One option that has grown in popularity over the last few years is fly fishing for bass. Being located on the main road from Exeter to Barnstaple means that it is only a short drive from our base at the Fox and Hounds before you are casting your fly in salt water.

For more information please do not hesitate in contacting us for more information!

2010 season underway!

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Despite cooler conditions than we hoped for at the start of the season fish have been caught, some on dries. Opening day saw Mo Graham return a 14 inch brown caught on a pheasant tailed nymph.

Salmon have been caught further downstream and despite the most recent spate none have been seen on the hotel waters as yet but they shouldn’t be far away.

The April edition of Trout and Salmon has an article by Devon fly fishing legend Mike Weaver visited during the mayfly last year. The highlight for me was the two of us both playing 12inch plus fish at the same time just a few feet apart!

A regular to our fishing school, Ian, had the first fish from one of our new beats and we hope there will be a lot more to come!
