Fly Fishing for Bass in Devon

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

We have been guiding anglers for bass fishing for a number of years now and know the best times to go to put you in the best chance of catching a fish. Fly fishing for bass is great fun and is something new for even the most seasoned angler to try.

We are happy to supply you with all the gear that you might need from Orvis but if you have a reservoir rod that will be just fine.

As wind can be an issue when fishing on the coast we advise that being able to double haul will make life easier for you but as long as you are able to cast 50ft of fly line you are in with a chance!

The cost of guided fly fishing for bass is £120 and is a 1/2 day please feel free to conatct us for more details or information.

Fly Fishing in Devon in September

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Fly Fishing in Devon in September can be a great time to be on the water. The autumn salmon run will be under way and with low water for most of the season there are still plenty of fish looking to make the next stage of their journey. Trout fishing can be outstanding and with the evenings getting cooler the fish will feed throughout the day looking to pack on weight ahead of spawning.

Fly Fishing in Devon

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Fly fishing in Devon is really starting to warm up and the fish are rising!

Mayfly are hatching and the fish are showing an interest in them which is great news for the fish but also us anglers as normally spooky, large trout throw off their inhibitions and hit a well presented pattern.

We are also starting to see sea trout on the hotel water which is great news for nocturnal anglers!

For the latest news on hatches please feel free to contact us.

Fly Fishing in Devon

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Fly Fishing in Devon has really got under way after the long cold winter so if you fancy learning how to get your fly to that rising fish or would like a fly fishing guide we are able to help!

If you are new to fly fishing join us and learn the art of casting a fly to a trout. We are able to offer fly fishing tuition to all levels from newcomers to the very experienced.

The Devon School of Fly Fishing operates on over 7 miles of the river Taw and some of it’s tributaries. Your guide has an intimate knowledge of the water and what is going on taking the guess work out of your day. Being based at the Fox and Hounds means we are able to offer accommodation and fishing in a beautiful setting.

2010 season underway!

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Despite cooler conditions than we hoped for at the start of the season fish have been caught, some on dries. Opening day saw Mo Graham return a 14 inch brown caught on a pheasant tailed nymph.

Salmon have been caught further downstream and despite the most recent spate none have been seen on the hotel waters as yet but they shouldn’t be far away.

The April edition of Trout and Salmon has an article by Devon fly fishing legend Mike Weaver visited during the mayfly last year. The highlight for me was the two of us both playing 12inch plus fish at the same time just a few feet apart!

A regular to our fishing school, Ian, had the first fish from one of our new beats and we hope there will be a lot more to come!
